Tree of the Virgin Mary

Located in Al-Matariya (ancient Heliopolis), Cairo, the Mary Tree is a famed religious and cultural shrine. Tradition holds that the Holy Family rested under this tree during their flight into Egypt. The original tree fell in 1656, but Franciscans collected branches, replanted them, and its descendants continue to grow there. The site includes a small museum, a well, and a grotto associated with the legend.
