Gayer-Anderson Museum (Bayt al-Kritliya)

The Gayer-Anderson Museum, popularly known as Bayt al-Kritliya ("House of the Cretian Lady"), is in Sayyida Zaynab next to Ibn Tulun Mosque. It consists of two Ottoman-era houses (built in 1540 and 1631), merged by interior passageways. In 1935, Major Gayer-Anderson restored and furnished them in the Islamic style to house his extensive collection of antiquities from Egypt, Islam, Asia and Europe. The museum has 29 rooms including themed halls (Persian, Chinese, Damascus, Turkish, Indian, Byzantine), seasonal reception rooms, and various festivity halls.
