Commissioned in 1125–1126 CE by the Fatimid vizier al-Ma’mun al-Bata'ihi under Caliph al-Amir, the Mosque of al-Aqmar is celebrated for its richly carved stone facade bearing "Muhammad and Ali" motifs and inscriptions in Kufic script. The mosque's layout ingeniously aligns with Al-Mu’izz Street while preserving its qibla orientation. It was later enhanced with a minaret in the Mamluk era and restored in subsequent centuries.
